The museum complex is located right in the
midst of Bremerhaven’s harbour landscape.
The entire spectrum of German maritime history
is documented and researched here, and
exhibitions, publications and public events give insight into the results of the museum’s work.

Ships and large-scale navigation-related technical objects are exhibited on the museum’s extensive grounds as well as in the museum harbour with several ships afloat gathered around a wooden barque of 1919.

The exhibitions in the main museum buildings
cover nearly 9,000 m˛, showing the famous
Hanse Cog of 1380, shipping from Roman times
until today, boat- and shipbuilding, emigration
and passenger shipping, the German navy,
sporting and workboats, emigration, classical
and modern navigation, as well as whaling,
deep-sea fishery, lifesaving, tidal research,
polar exploration and oceanography.

In addition to the exhibitions the German Maritime Museum offers its visitors and users access to a large specialised library, an archive and a
range of other facilities.
